I'm not sure that I am doing this correctly but to Paula Curran:  I am a descendant of Isaac Locke and Nancy Gapen so I am wondering if the Lockes mentioned in your post are also their descendants.  If they are, I might be a cousin to you.  How do we figure that out?

Ellen, Joshua isn't among my Millers - same name does present problems.  An error in my Bailey line has Joseph of Fauquier confused with Joseph who went to Taylor Co., WV.  Joseph of Fauquier never left Fauquier!!!  And Joseph of Taylor Co. headed west from Frederick Co., VA (but was born in Maryland so says the 1850 census).  So we persevere... thanks for answering.

Paula, My Miller connection is my ancestor, Elizabeth Roach's first husband, Joshua Miller.  They married in Fauquier County VA in 1811. He died in Berkeley VA (WV) in 1817.  She married Henry Shober in 1820, and some time after that they migrated west, ending in Illinois.   I am not a descendant of Joshua Miller, but am interested in him, because I want to write her story. There are so many Joshua Millers at the same time...Thanks for friending me!

For Ellen Rowan Taylor:  Regarding your Miller line and Berkeley county.  I have a connection (albeit slim).  Cynthia Hall married Thomas Locke in Berkeley Co.  Their daughter, Sarah Locke, married Abner Amhurst Miller of Monongalia Co.  I am a descendant and have done extensive research on the Miller family, back to Northhampton, MA.  Would this help you with your Miller line?  Also sent you a friend request.  Regards, Paula

Link to the WV archives

Link the the archives Birth,Marriage and Death records. This is a very helpful link for researching any of these topics. Not all dates and county's are there but I have found alot of my people listed in one manner or the other

Oops, I forgot! WV State Archives also has most of the vital records, including marriages on line (the actual images of the books and documents) on their site,
for free! It is searchable by name and by county, as well as for the whole state
at once. They are constantly adding images, so if it is not yet there, it may be
in the future, if it exists. There is also a lot of WV stuff on the new LDS Family
Search site, where they are busily adding all the information from all the films
which they have in their possession in the Salt Lake City Library. This collection is growing so fast now, that you must periodically recheck everything. Europe is quickly being added to it, as well.

Check the WV State Archive's site, the link for which is given on this page
under "information". The Library & Archives Div. has a listing of all films that
they have for each county in the state. There should also be an index to the
Estate Settlements and Wills, if you are not sure exactly what you want and
you can get a copy of all the pages with the surnames you are interested in
by sending a letter with a $15.00 check (for this you can submit two different
requests) for out of state researchers and it is less, I think only $5.00 for
researchers who live in WV. Also check out the listing they have for what
is in their special collection. I found my GGG Grandfather's diary there and
was able to secure a copy of it. Many, many interesting things in this
special collection and I periodically go through it to see if anything else
strikes me. They also have a "vertical file" for surnames, so check to see
if they have one for yours. It will be a file which holds old newspaper clippings,
family group sheets, photos, and anything else they have collected over the
years. You may also request copies of everything in these files. Happy hunting!

Hi Gary.  My parents, both sets of grandparents along with other family members through the years got married in Cumberland, Md.  Mom said that was the place to go for a quiet wedding and there was no waiting period.  I just looked at GenWeb and under Allegany County they have a list of names from the mid 1800s that might help.
