I have a Jefferson Williams who resided in Edgecomb Co., NC.  He married a widow named  Dawson and they moved to SC.  He appears to have a brother or father named Harden Williams as they both survey the Estate of a Luke Patrick in Orangeburg Co., SC.  It's possible that your John may be related to Jefferson.  Jefferson may have been married previously?
