I have some Wiltshire genes on my direct maternal line. My great-great-great grandmother Mary Ann BUTLER was born c.1816 in Purton, Wiltshire, but I don't yet have a baptism for her. She married Moses BALL in 1842 in Walcot, Somerset. Their four eldest children, George, James, Jane and Hannah (my great-great grandmother) were born in Sherston. The family then moved to Westonbirt in Gloucestershire. I'm particularly intrigued by my maternal line because I've had my mtDNA (mitochondrial DNA) tested and I belong to haplogroup U4 which is quite rare and mostly found in Finland and Siberia. I am one of only two people in the U4 project from Britain. I wrote a short piece on my blog about my maternal line which can be read
here.
