Good Resources

I'll update it with more as I remember them..

Wisconsin Vital Records - great online search, can see basic info, only $15 to order a copy - http://www.wisconsinhistory.org/vitalrecords/
Wisconsin GenWeb - there is also the Gen Web site. Good for county-related information. Some counties are better than others. - http://www.wigenweb.org/

Thank you GeneJ and Gwen! I'm not sure what was his religious affiliation but after finding out his wife and 2 sons are buried in a Catholic cemetery I'm beginning to think he may have been Catholic. So, thanks, I'll check into it. My ggrandfather's name was Henry GROSSKOPF, born 6 Apr 1866. The informant for his death certificate gave his birthplace as Indiana. However, I found a birth certificate for one of his children and his birthplace is listed as Hanover, Germany. According to one census he immigrated in 1875. He married Mary Langguth, but I haven't found any records of their marriage. If anyone comes across anything that may help I would love to hear from you.

My ggrandfather died in Chicago and according to his death certificate was buried in Milwaukee but does not indicate what cemetery. Does anyone know who I need to contact to find out in which cemetery he's buried?

Have you tried locating other family members? Siblings, children, his wife? That might help, especially if any of them had unusual given names.

Maybe someone can help. My grandfather's brother Emil Julius Runge was born in Greiffenberg Germany in 1879. He came to America with his parents in 1885. They settled in Milwaukee. He is listed in the Milwaukee City Directory. in 1920 and then he is gone. POOF. I have looked on the 1930 Census. The city directory. I just don't know where else to look. He got married to Helen in 1913 in Milwaukee Any suggestions as to where else to look?

Pam,
I got the Enterprise list off of Ancestry. I thought maybe you had Ancestry. If I knew how to send it to you, I would.

Aug 13, 1846 Enterprise
Wm Krause 46
Fredricka 32
Herman 18 yr. 6 mth
Wilhelmina 14
Ferdinand 17
August 10
Bertha 12
Julius 6
Albert 1
Augusta 1

They sailed from Hamburg, so I will check the Hamburg list and see if I can read where they came from.

I know Mat is indexed as Max but looking at the actual census, it does say Mat. I am thinking his name was probably Mathias and he probably died in 1906 or 1904. I also found a Hendricka Krause in the Wisconsin Historical lists as dying in 1903. I wonder if this is Ricka.

Pam,
I JUST FOUND THEM!! I am so excited, LOL. In 1880 they are in Milwaukee, district 98. He is listed under Julious Kause and she is Huricha. They are listed with somebody by the name of F. Brown and it says Grandmother. She is above them though, so I am thinking the numbering is off. Remember though, I said I thought Ulbricka/Ulricka's mother may be a Braun? They also have a son Frank, so this family matches with the John and Marie Krause living in Chicago in 1870. His birth age also matches the Julius Krause from Washington County.

Just for the record, the Koeller family was also living in District 98 in 1880.
