I am looking deeply into Buffalo. My 2nd great grandfather James P. Haslam, married to Sarah Wogan, got naturalized and worked as a train engineer, from abt. 1955 to 1870, when he has moved his young family to Michigan, with his job.He eventually lives in Milwaukee, WI., where he dieds.
The census data, I have already gathered, but haven't found any marriage certificate, or his citizanship papers.

I'm pretty sure marriage records in NYS weren't required prior to 1870. He may show up in the city of Buffalo Directory held at the library downtown. The next time I go I could take a look for you but I really have no idea when that will be. :-)

I have ancestors who lived in Tonowanda in 1859-1861 and possibly somewhat later (they were in Chicago by 1870). Tonowanda is near Buffalo. I don't think there are many marriage records from that time period either. I was lucky enough to find the date and place of my ancestors' marriage in a family Bible record.
