I miss having an opportunity to discuss genealogy, etc. during the summer months when the local genealogical society doesn't meet. If you would like to share ideas or anything we normally do or talk about this is a good unofficial, informal place to do so. Being kind to each other is a wonderful goal for such a gathering place.

Hey Guys,
This is an unofficial and informal place to talk about our society and its doings and other related things. BE AWARE and FAIR WARNING: if you post something I think should be on our other web page, I'll migrate parts of it over there to share with the world.

Hello Deason, Could not resist dropping for a cup! You are so right about missing genealogy society meetings. I moved from Texas a few years ago. Now out here in South Carolina close to where many of my ancestors came from. They County I live in does not have a society that meets regularly. I have driven up to neighboring county meetings when I can but because of conflicting work hours, I had to give that up. It seems like meetings online have taken the place of the live ones we used to have.

Oh I just want to add, my husbands grandparents lived in Wood county. The Vaughns and the Shaws of Quitman are his family.

Hi Betty,
I just happened to be online at this time and got an email that you had joined. I popped over to see if you had left a comment. I hope you aren't too disappointed right now. This group is in beta beta.:-) I have set it up and have not yet even emailed it's presence to our Wood County Society members. I'm waiting for a go-ahead on something else from society officers before I do this. I hope everyone who comes on and has an idea, discussion topic, or comment that will help this become a valuable place will speak up. Right now, we are just two (members), but I hope that we begin to add others soon.

Deason, Hey it is a good place to start. I believe that having a place to just drop in and leave a hint, ask a question, or say HEY I DID GOOD is a great place to have. You can teach me more about Wood County while you are at it! good luck on building this to be an active site.

It might even make Martha Wiggins Vaughn Shaw smile.. Where ever she may be!

Our ancestors really didn't get into photography. I don't know if it was the long poses or they thought it was a bunch of foolishness. :-)

Hi Jammie,
Would it be okay if I post your query on the Wood County Genealogical Society Bulletin at http://woodtxgene.com/ ?
Comment by jammie barker on September 27, 2009 at 7:33pm

If you are just arriving here, be sure to look at the two beginning comments below (all the way to the bottom) posted July 18 and August 26, 2009.

Folks, I have a comment/problem/question.
For several years, I have been compiling a database of Wood County people.
A couple of years (maybe more) ago I put a CD in the Quitman and Mineola libraries containing this database, at that time a bit over 17000 people.
The Society also offered the CD for sale, but with zero response.
I keep putting people in the database and I am now up to a bit over 18,700 people. I want other people to have access to this material although I must
retain the ability to keep plugging away at additions, etc.
This whole thing is done in Personal Ancestry File (PAF) from the Family History web site (Mormons). PAF is free to anyone.
One possible thing to do: I would be willing to email a compacted data file
to any member/researcher. Just ask at woodco@suddenlink.net. Or even leave a message here at the Coffee Clatch. I think non-members should promise to
make a contribution to the Society. How about a $5 minimum, honor system.
Can anyone think of another use for this material?

Hey, Mark. That sounds like a good idea to me.
Comment by Rudolph Marquis Reid Jr. on October 6, 2009 at 9:06am
My offer of the PAF file was intended to be by email attachment only. I am getting requests for CDs and that was not my intent.
The file is quite large, so be patient.
