That an interesting idea. I didn't know about InDesign. I'll have to look that up, because I, too, want to include such things.

My currently plan is to divide the book in sections. I'm going to one line at a time. First, I will have the "descendants of" sheet since that is pretty much all inclusive, and then write out the story of that family, detailing what life was like in that area in that time and what they might have done for a living or for fun. I'm definitely including pictures and maps. I'd love to include a travel map as well. I've done pretty much all the research already so it's just a matter of getting everything organized, and getting the information from current people, like cousins and their children, since they wouldn't be on anything I can find yet.

My book is also a gift to a daughter. Initially, it was to be a birth present .. then a first birthday gift .. now it might be a New Years' Gift. She'll be a year in October so if I get working quickly, I might be able to give it to her as a second birthday gift. I then plan to update the book and print a new one for each child so they can each have their own.

Thanks for the great idea about InDesign!!

No, not really. I haven't decided if I want to focus on one branch [Grandma's Paternal line: Sands is what I'm working on now], and when I feel I've gone as far as I can publish then, or do all the lines I had wanted to and then publish them into one book. My goal is to have something I can give my future children, but there are a lot of great books on archive.org; I might get InDesign and use one of them as a template, I want to be able to add maps and things.

I have all my information in a box and I'm finally starting to write up my "descendants of" sheets. It's definitely a more difficult task than I initially thought, but oh well. I'm hoping my book will be printed and in my hands before 2011, so that gives me about 18 months to finish it.

Do you have a format/layout design in mind yet for your book?

I can proof read [assuming you just want someone reading it to be clear on what you're stating], but I haven't started writing up mine at all. I just started one of my lines.

Would anyone be interested in starting a proof-reading circle? I was thinking we could send each other our manuscripts when they are finished so we could all proof-read them for each other. Anyone interested?

I'm currently working on a genealogy and family history book, which I plan to self-publish through a print on demand publisher. Is anyone else doing this?
