Hi, My gt gt grandparents came from Sweden to Boston. Does anyone know if the local in Sweden would indicate that route. I am trying to find out where they came from in Sweden. It is so difficult to find any info and the name Olaf Johnson is so common. Thanks, Laura
It was a lot of emigrants who went to Boston from Sweden. Do you know when your gt gr grandparents emigrated, year and month? If so I will make a try in the CD Emigrant Popular, which says from which parish/place they emigrated from. Ancestry.com has it searchable on their site as well.
My gt gt grandfather immigrated to U. S, in September 1853 from Sweden leaving from Goteborg to Boston, Massachussetts on the S.S. Lexington.and the ship was FULL of Swedes. He had a very common name, Gustaf Johnson, but luckily he was traveling with two sisters and one brother in law. One thing I found that helps is, if they lived in a Swedish community in the U. S., look to see where the other Swedes who immigrated at the same time came from.
Patricia, Do you know his and his siblings ages? It would help a a lot. Don't have any matches in Emigranten Popular, but maybe I find something in the CD Emibas.
/Annelie
Annelie, were you addressing the below message to me? I'm a he, not a she. :-) My ancestor, Gustaf Adolf Johnson, was born in Lommaryd, Jonkoping lan. He was the son of Johannes Johansson and Maja Stina Larsdotter. They moved from there to Vireda, Jonkoping lan in 1838.
The only family left in Sweden was his oldest brother Lars Johan Johansson who farmed at Blackarp, Vireda. Would be interested in finding descendants of Lars Johan. He had at least three children, Gustaf Alfred, Ida Kristina and Oscar August. Gustaf Alfred was still at Blackarp until at least 1896.
Patrick, I think that Annelie as well as myself thought with your initial posting that you were wanting help in locating Gustaf Johnson. I think Annelie lives in Sweden. She has been wonderful to help people who need some guidance. She has found at least one great bit of info for me and she also has a wonderful web site which centers mostly on the Falkoping area.(Skaraborgs Lan). She may want to correct my information!
Thanks, Leif. I appreciate any help. Maybe you or someone on here can answer a question that has been bothering me. Johnannes Johansson's birth place is listed at "V. Ryd". Is that Vastra Ryd in Ostergotland? Thanks again!
Thats correct Cheri, I thought Patrick (sorry for slipping on the keys and put an -a on your name) didn't know where his Gustaf Johnson and his siblings were born, none of that was in the original post.
The files Jönköping Gen Soc are soon at the end as they will take them of the website. This as there is so much errors in them. You really has to check with the original and see if the info are correct. The Gen Soc will produce a CD instead with the errors corrected.
Probably V Ryd means Västra Ryd in Östergötland,
Myself work on a database of emigrants from the Falköping are in Skaraborg, some of "found" emigrants are at my website www.emigrant.se (klick on the GB flag to find the english vers). /Annelie
Thanks for your patience. What does Hulu mean? I've seen that there are numerous places named that. Didn't find anything in the Swedish - English online dictionary.
Can someone help me read a birth record? It's condition is poor and I can't make it out. Possible someone with experience with these records can make it out
.
The record is found at Genline Familyfinder, 1145.17.5100, [Jönköping] Vireda, C:2, Births, Marriages, Deaths, 1729 - 1791, 52/0, Image 32 of 284
Stina Larsdotter was born on 13 Jan 1768 in Vireda, Jönköping län, Sweden.
Lived at Boarp, Vireda, Jönköping län, Sweden in 1792.
Stina married Sven Svensson son of Sven Svensson and Ingrid on 24 Jun 1792 in Vireda, Jönköping län, Sweden. Sven was born on 1 May 1766 in Vireda, Jönköping län, Sweden.
He lived at Almeberg, Vireda, Jönköping län, Sweden in 1792.
After marriage lived at Hestra, Vireda, Jönköping län 1792 to at least 1799
Lived at Grankarr, Vireda, Jönköping län, Sweden in 1804, 1806,1808.
Stina is my maternal ancestor and I'm trying to extend her maternal ancestry as far as possible. I'm participating in a mDNA project and wanting to contribute to an ongoing conversation.
Pat, I will check this out on Thursday and see if I can do anything with it. It is 4 am here and I heading to bed. Will get back to you and I am sure a couple others here will look at it also. It never hurts to have more than one opinion on difficult records anyway. Good Luck.
I don't have Genline, I use ArkivDigital instead as the pictures are much better as they have taken photos of the original books. So when you write about pagenumbers I prefer the one in the original book, not Genlines numbers.
I don't think I'm the best person to help out with writtings in the 1700ties but I can make a try.
Stina b 13th Jan. Parents Lars Jonsson and Sara L? in ..arp, Vtbg I think it means Boarp, Västergården.
Patrick,
Annelie has the correct record and I did not on the first try! It's a very hard one to read for sure. The only thing I can add is under witnesses, there is a (hustru) Maria and a (pigan)Stina. I can not make out their last names. I believe the "witnesses' are all from Solberga, there is a "Norra,( North) and a Sodra,(South) Solberga
Oops, try this--
I research mainly in Floby Parish and surrounding Parish areas of Skaraborgs Lan and also some in Loftahammar, Kalmar Lan Sweden. My blog, Those Old Memories often has stories and pics of Swedish ancestors or research.
Have updated my website Emigrant.se with new lists of emigrants from Falköping, Skaraborg. It's two type of lists. One sorted by born parish the other in the state/country the emigrants died in.
I have a Peter/Petter Krut, born September 1794; a soldier in the Regiment Smalands Grenadjar Bataljon, Company Sunnerbo, Parish Goteryd, File Snarhult. He was married to Sara Nilsdotter; they had a daughter Anna born November 20, 1820 at Snarhult Dragontorp. Apparently, he moved to Goteryd from Hinneryd in 1813 at which time he also changed his name from Rask to Krut. The couple had two other daughters, Stina (10/23/1815) and Johanna (8/10/1825).
I'm trying to find the name he was born with and his parents names and info... Any help would be appreciated. Tak.
I am looking for information about: Johan Malkus Carlsson b March 28, 1896 Skaraborgs County Bitterna . Looking for the whole famliy tree. He had some sisters. Her name might be Anna Emila Carlsdotter b 1897. Or her name might be Stina. The farhter's name is Carl Johnson. If anyone could help I would so greatful. Thank You Cynde
Bitterna is a parish in Vara district. More about this we might discuss in the group Skaraborg County Ancestry - Sweden. There you find more about genealogy in Skaraborg. And there is a special discussion for Vara.

Wow thank you so much for the information:) Annelie. My grandfather had other sisters is there any trace of them? One of them might be named Stina Carlsdotter before marriage.
Cynde: No trace of any Johansson, but Carl Johan's father might had that name. It didn't go to father to son as Patrynomicon is used by this time in Sweden. Please check out Hans Högman's Genealogy in Sweden to find out more about swedish genealogy.
The info I gave you about the family is of Census 1900, I can also make a look in 1890 but if there is siblings born after 1900 I can't find them in the sources other then as Ron's source of a database Disbyt, if someone have made a contribution to it.
yes Ron I would be interested in anything I can learn. well someone from Sweden gave me the info on Anna Emelia as my Grandfathers sister. My Grandfather had older sisters. He left Sweden in at 19. There was another sister born after him her name was Stina Carlsdotter b 1897 . So I'm not really sure if Anna Emelia is related to me. Although I don't know the names of the older sisters.
This is the closest I could find for Stina... There were many more hits for Kristina, but none this close to 1897:
