I have set up a Group for Wiltshire Ancestors - would you add a link to it on your GURD group and I will do likewise to the new group.

I don't have any Gurds (yet) but I was just in Donhead and Semley looking for my ancestors in the area. They also came from both parishes, apparently living near the border, on Barker's Hill. Maybe our ancestors were neighbors?
You have a Jonah Burden, born 1787 and married a Eunice James. This is the brother of my Stephen Burden, born 1791 and married Frances James. Stephen is my 6ggrandfather. How do you relate to Jonah?
I was looking at the Gurd ancestor page as my Gurd ancestor Mary married James Harris in Donhead St Mary on 25th Sept 1799 taken from the Donhead marriage register at Swindon and Wiltshire History Centre. James and Mary are the parents of my 4X greatgrandfather John Harris born in 1805 in Donhead St Mary. He married Hannah Blandford in Donhead St Mary on the 2nd August 1831, they then moved to Chicklade and then off to Codford.
I am a little confused because on the Gurd Ancestors page there is a Mary Gurd bn about 1756 who married James Harris on 25 Sept 1779. If this is the same two people then this would have made Mary about 50 when John Harris was born.
I have Mary Gurd daughter of Joseph Gurd and Hannah Bell born in 1779/80 as the Mary Gurd who married James Harris. As far as I can tell they had children Job 1799, James 1802, John 1805, Harry 1810 and Sarah 1815. I believe Mary died in Donhead St Mary in 1849 at the age of 80.
I wondered if you could have a look and shed any light on this.
Hi Dot and all, thanks for your welcome and already have been excited by reading Alison's message. Alison and I have a relationship which is great news! Joy
Hi Dot - is the tree on this site? If it is I can't it ... I am a beginner, after all! My closest relative is Mary Alice Gurd, daughter of William Gurd and Lizzie Fall. Does that help?
I have looked extensively at the 1911 census and cannot find any trace of Bessie Kate Gurd (1890). Our local record office is one of those where you can access the 1911 census for free so I intend having a further look next time I am there. Melanie
Hi Dot
Thanks for inviting me to join the group. I am interested in anything that can help increase my knowledge of our ancestors.
If anyone has any information on the descendents of George Frederick Gurd born 1867 at Lytchett Matravers, nr Poole, Dorset I would love to hear from you. He was the son of George Gurd born 1839 and Amelia Caines. George was my great grandfather and was one of 5 children. Anne
I suppose there's a chance that Bessie might have been missed. I have a couple of relatives who are doing a good job of being invisible too. I must check if our library has free 1911 census as it's expensive to make all but the essential records. Dot
Hi Dot
I havent heard from Brian since the beginning of the year although I have emailed him several times he has not replied. I will try again this weekend.
I kept an eye on the group but did not see any new members. Anne
