    Hello Nivard -

    Good to see you here!

Do come & join the England group -
    http://www.genealogywise.com/group/england/

It has links to many of the county groups now, so is an excellent central point for links round the country!

No one ever said genealogy was easy :-))

Welcome to the England group - all ideas for developing it welcomed!

    I know - and GW knows I know :-(

The set up is that you can choose to approve subscribers or not. Many of the old list admins from "somewhere else" set their groups to subscription approval.
Now it turns out that makes them closed & invisible !!!!
Not only are their pages apparently empty, but if you go to folks' profile pages the England group doesn't show even if they are subscribed.
    Totally misleading !
they don't hold out much hope of sorting it - but are trying...
    Grrrr!

My Ovington line is in New York (William to New York in 1795), but I believe that in my box of old, unsorted photographs, there is a small group labeled "Our English Branch of the Family" or something like that. The photographs are not of any of my New York Ovingtons and may date in mid-to-late 1800s. I can't remember whether any individuals are identified, but there may be some written notes. If you'd like to know more, let me know and I'll search them out (I hope I'm remembering correctly) .....

I'll dig for the photos tomorrow....

I just found your question about the department store. Yes, I believe that the store you mean is the same. Ovington Bros. was not a department store as we use the term, but it was a fine china, crystal, gift store, founded in 1846. I am the G granddaughter of one of its co-founders. After various family deaths, the later management over-expanded its branches, and it did not survive the bad years of the Depression.
