Have you found any value in this site yet? I see too much irrelevant stuff and I can't seem to get rid of it. I don't see what my friends are doing, just people I don't know, and groups that are based in the States.
I can't yet see that it's worth my while creating an SAG presence here when I have enough trouble finding the time to create more content on the SAG page in Facebook.
Thank you for the invitation to join your group. I can suggest that anyone requiring help on South Australia, particularly the South East area, could contact the South East Family History Group - www.sefhg.org - info@sefhg.org - a great website.
I am trying to find Magnus Manson, came to Tasmania by 1843, married Mary Roach and came to South Australia. There are many Magnus Mansons in the world, and I don't know where he came from. I also have brick walls on Archibald Walker, born 1821 in Scotland; George Leonard, b.c1824 England; Dixie, Ownsworth, Wibday in England; Johann Fr.Carl Wundersitz, b. 1817 and Johanna Fr. Schubert b.1811 in Prussia. Would love that "magic contact". Jann
I will give it a try, but with so little information it may be a needle in a couple of hay stacks. I will keep the website on file -try once and may be when I can get to the Scottish census' try again!
Thanks for the invite.
My names are Chesman, Payne, Dale, Hall, Biggadike, Tooley, Curtis, Newton all mainly from Lincolnshire. Steward and Howard from Norfolk.
Thank you for suggesting that I join the Australian Genealogy Group and I'll certainly do so. I'm a little tentative at the moment as I'm just coming back to family history after a long break and I'm a newbie with social networking.
Thankyou, most of mine are Uk. But I do have a convict escapee buried Port MacQuarie and some KEECH families in SA
If I catch any of them by the tail you guys will be the first to know.
Cheers Pam
Thanks for the invite Geniaus, I will join, however I am first generation Aussie (arrived 1975) so have no ancestors here. I am based in Perth WA and if anyone needs assistance over here will help out if I can - work and family commitments allowing!
regards
Thanks Geniaus for the invitation and whilst I've now been researching for over twenty years, being online is much newer to me and I'm learning as I go.
Thanks Geniaus. Have joined the group and looking forward to sharing collective knowledge of members. My main Australian interests are the Schubach and Collins families of the NSW South Coast, and the Darke, Cowley, Nicholls and Foster families in country SA.
Thank you for you invite to join you, however, I have thoroughly research all connections to my family history in Australia, consequently I am concentrating my research in Devon and Cornwall, and in particular the involvement of my ancestors as ship owners and Merchants in Cod Fishing Industry of Newfoundland.
My sister Pam Macdonald has started up Clan Donald WA, they are in the process of setting up the web page, may Pam have your permission to add genealogy wise as a
link please. l know l am the other side of the country (NSW) but have offered to help her out when ever l can. l have absolutely enjoyed this site since joining.Mainly being able to help others break down their brickwalls, that is a real plus.
Thanks again ,l will wait to hear your decision.
Many thanks& Regards

Hi Geniaus, I am searching for one of my grandfather's brothers viz. William in South Australia as he was married twice and had 8 children of whom I have the christian names.I only know the name of his second wife. I am also looking for info on James and Jane Whiteford who arrived in Adelaide. S.A. on board the Shackamaxon from Liverpool on the 18 January 1853 with 3 children one of whom I am descended from another William!! They were born in Renfrew Scotland 1823
Hello Distant Cousin Geniaus.
Thank you for inviting me to join this list.
I descend from the marriage of Benjamin Joseph Cummins and Ivy Pearl Longhurst. They had 15 children, 6 of whom are still alive. My mother, who is 91, was their 5th child.
Thank you for allowing me to look at your family tree. I am also very interested in my paternal grandmother's McCall line of the family at the moment and live in hope that there may be another cousin or two out there somewhere who might be researching the same line .
Best wishes, Tricia
Dear Jill,
Just visited your blog - gorgeous photo! Do you knowof Linked In at
http://www.linkedin.com/? This is where I first read about GenealogyWise. It is a professional networking site.
Geniaus, I do not think so, However, I am collecting all Shorten's in Australia in one data base. I have 4 seperate Shorten families coming into Victoria, two from Ireland and two from England. Still trying to make connections. The Shorten's in Ireland came from York England around 1520, so there may be connection way back. I have not started on NSW Shorten just yet.
advise off list at shorten@alphalink.com.au with your webpage site

The Surnames I am looking for are:
Von Senden, Lorenzen / Thompson, Brelih, Hann, Milner, Lentell, Holtorf, Williams, Quanchie, Stella, Barber, Curnuck, Baldwin, Pickering, Ashworth,
PLus a name unknown of a German Opera singer who had twins sons in 1879 one of which was my Grandfather. They were left on the doorstep of the home belonging to the Hann Family in Buckingham Shire England..
There are more surnames but I am not home at present to check but will as soon as I get a chance.
Countries: Germany, Denmark, Isle of Mann, England, Australia, New Zealand, Wales, Spain, Italy.
Beginner's Level even after years of stop and start researching.
Reason: Well, its fascinating, it gives me a better knowledge & understanding of my family from the past & now. History and people have always interested me. Yes totally agree its fun!
Genealogy Website or Blog: No I don't have one, but would be very interested in creating one.
PS. I knew a family who live in NSW Australia, in a place name Rutherford, who's surname is Purvis, Robert & Cathy Purvis. I don't know if that is a lead for you or not but you never know. They came from Sydney somewhere I think, its been a long time since I have seen them.
Thanks for the info on John Bertram Chatfield. He doesn't appear to link into my line, but his father came from a town where many of my lot came from. Sorry I was late in replying.
regards
Gordon
It's quite a small place now but so many people have a connection to Dungog it's amazing! I notice that you have a McDermid connection, are they from Dungog/Taree/Manning areas?
Thank you for the information. I asked for a look up but I got a message saying they had no volunteers to look up in the Illwarra Mercury. Thank you again because I can now look for other relatives
Hi, saw your comment on google wave. Been looking for an invite, I don't suppose you've any spare? I'm looking to use it both for genealogy and to get the kids at the primary schools I work at, started in advance!
My woodheads were the Melbourne crowd, none of your names are familiar at this time. but you never know. There was a lot of them in Yorkshire where there is a town named Woodhead, also it means they originate from the head of the Wood. some clever person has decided it was an occupational name coming from the wooden blocks used in printing, however the name has been around longer than the occupation.
hi geniaus, as I was reading through the comments I saw your reply to Christine where you said
" one of the problems is that when people add new discussions then those like IF YOU WANT HELP/LOOK UPS POST IT HERE disappear down the list. I wish that, as administrator I could keep the more general discussions at the top and visible but that isn't possible"
I am on a photography group (Flickr) which has discussions and if an important one looks like disappearing down the queue, the admin (or anyone) posts a new reply that just says "bump" and everyone reading it understands that the purpose is just to "bump" the post back up to the top of the discussion list again.
I just thought it might be an idea that would help you here.
Some forums also have what they call "sticky" posts which always remain at the top but perhaps that function isn't available here.
Hi it may be a little misleading the title of the photo. IT is acutally taken in Victoria. The title on the photo happened when I downloaded off my camera to my new computer with vista and it named them all wisemans ferry lol.
Geniaus I had a look at your Woodheads but no immediate connection that I could see. My Benjamin settled in Fitzroy in Melbourne in 1850ish and before then Yorkshire around Huddlesfield area. I dont have a lot on the yorkshire end and there were a lot of Woodheads around there. Of course the name comes from Head of the Wood where the family probably originally came from in Yorkshire.
Thankyou so much for the welcome Geniaus :)) I really love the hunting.. brick wall at the moment, but will find a way around it. I suppose it's because I am a newbee LOL!
Thank you for the warm welcome to the group Geniaus. I will try to maintain my connection with this site however, along with my research interest, I am also a prime carer for my darling mum (85) and also my husband who have both had significant health issues over the past 3 years. Despite all, Genealogy is still my passion. As yet, I haven't even familiarised myself with the whole genealogywise site:).
