    Hello James,
Yes, we are researching the same Begg family in Stormont. All my Rowe[s] were from Riceville in Prescott County. My great grandfather, John James Rowe, married Margaret Cameron, daughter of Angus Cameron and Euphemia Begg. We may have communicated in the past. You descend from the Tinkess-Begg, Tinkess-Wilson line. I believe you live in Michigan? I am also in regular contact with Linda Tannis from Ottawa, and a few other cousins.
    Bob
  • Bob Rowe

Yes I have them back to Perth but I haven't done much of the research myself. The info I have is 'stolen' from others - probably you.

This site starts with Alexander but I have four generations above him [the 'stolen' stuff].

Mom's side. Her mother was Cecile Montour, from the Batoche area. Mom's uncles were the ones killed in the battle of Duck Lake. They are buried in St. Laurent. Cecile is buried in St. Louis. The Montours were interesting people. Bonne Homme Montour is buried in Pembima, I think. The come from the name Cous. Pierre Cous. The name changed down the line.
  • Yvonne Richer

I don't have much on this site. I have been doing research and adding to the tree on Ancestry.com. I have over 4,000 people on that tree. I love doing this. It's so interesting.
  • Deborah Lalonde Smith

I just wanted to say Hello really. I can't find out where my grandmother was born..it is stated she was born in Port Huron but the state denies having it. Maybe thery spelled her name wrong..don't know. Ellen (Helen) Chartrand daughter of Mose and Delphine (Julliet) was born in 1868 in Port Huron (?) then moved to Bay City. Found her on the census and they had spelled her name incorrectly..at that point they put it as Chaltraw..so what doyou suggest I should do?
  • Jenn Layne

    James-

I talked to our computer developer and this is what she had to say about your questions.

Regarding adding a link to your member page, there is a "post a link" place...
it's next to the status update, so it lets you add a link as opposed to a status update. If you "post a link" it puts it in your stream. The stream being the "latest activity" section on your profile page.

You can add attachments to your profile page. You should see a section called "Text Box" underneath your profile information. If you click on the "Edit" button, then click on the little icon that looks like a white sheet of paper with a bent corner... that will allow you to upload a file.

Does that answer your questions? Let me know. Gena

    James,

Hi, I am a relatively renewed genealogist determined to get my family lines filled in. I am in search of one Carl Tilden born July 12, 1927 in Medford, Middlesex, MA. If you have any information on him, would you please leave me a message here on the site at my page: Donna Gates-Smeall.
  • Mary Beth Schadel

    Hi Jim,
In 1999 you sent me my Lasley, Davenport, Ance, Robinson and Bourassa trees. Where can I find the most recent to download, I'm sure there has to be updates by now !!! Also, been trying to figure out my Aunts husbands family.
Ruth Bourisaw b 5-19-1887, d 4-18-1969 in chicago IL. She married a Lewis Hagerman....on the 1920 census still had her on Mack. Is...in the 1930 census has Lewis with a Maxine in IL....so somehwere they were married. My mom said it had to be breif, she NEVER remembers her ever speaking of him, nothing. She did come to visit my mom in 1961 and used Hagerman as her last name...however she is buried on Mack. Is. I'm trying to find relatives from his assumed first marriage but can't seem to find anything. If oy ucan jsut suggest websites, I'm happy to do the foot work.
Thanks... glad we are in touch again after all these years

First I must say Thank You!!!

I can't believe how lucky I was to find Genealogy Wise, join your group, only be a member for a few days and have all this information just given to me. This is a wonderful site, a great group with kind and generous people. I very much appreciate the time it took both you and Shari to look up this information and post it.

    With much gratitude

    Hi James,

I came across your 2000 posting about the descendants of Habakkuk & Anne Davenport Turner.  We too are descended from them through a sibling of Joseph's.  I have records of 4 descendants of Habakkuk & Anne from the Coventry, CT records, but hadn't known of Joseph.  I'd love to correspond and share information.  I am interested in any documentation you might have of the birth of Joseph and the marriage of Joseph to Dorothy Babcock.

James, thanks so much for starting this group. It's nice to see people touching bases. One of your names is in my tree.I have a grandmother Audy from Charlesbourg and St.Casimir.All of my relatives are still in that area.
  • Jeannine Sills

James,I just went on there and found tons of names in my tree that match yours. Chalifour,Bedard,Aubin,Parent,Marcoux,Garneau,Roy.I imagine we share siblings in some of these families.I don't have your type of program but I can tell you that I found my connection to your Audy. Looks like your # 84 Joseph married Agnes Duchesneau. They had a daughter Domithilde who became my great grandfather Edouard Gendron's 2nd wife after my great grandmother died at the age of 33.This 2nd wife raised my grandfather and his 2 brothers.Domithilde had 3 children of her own.I don't go back in the Audy family but if there's anything else I can help you with, just ask.
  • Jeannine Sills

James, do you know if you have any Filles du roi among your ancestors? I have 11 with proofs. I wonder if we share any.You could find their names along with the Carignan soldiers(I have one) at    www.fillesduroi.org/

Greetings from Southport, N.C. Via the Yonge distaff side, I have way-back English Royalty both legitimate and bastard. I have many French-Canadian ancestors, but know of no French Royalty? My aide Maj. Pierre Gabriel de Juzan of Mobile was killed in combat against Chickasaws in the 1730's First Battle of Ackia, Tupelo, Mississippi Military District. Canadian kin killed Second Battle of Ackia, were Capt. Antoine de Tonti and aide Maj. Charles Pierre de Liette. Juzan's mother was Michelle de Liete de Juzan of "of the King's cabins", Versailles. Etienne Burel of Canada wed a "King's Daughter" (by her first marriage) and their three daughters were "Pelican Girls". I descend the one that wed Maj. Francoise Trudeau who 1702 built Mobile's first fort. Does the Canadian or French government provide tombstone/memorial stones for it's veterans fallen in combat on foreign fields such as the Ackia Battlefield National Park, or a nearby Catholic church.? I think all three were considered for the Order of St. Louis after their deaths, but it was not awarded.
  • James Alfred Locke Miller Jr.

I descend Wm. Spencer Murphy/Murphey of early 1800's Pitt County, North Carolina, who signed the will of next door neighbor Jacob Blount. His brother was Wm. Blount Murphey, and sister Wilhelmina "Billie" Murphey. In the Revolution his father Capt. William Murphey, Sr., shared a Dobbs County, N.C. (defunct county) militia company with brother Capt. Michael Murphey. Brother Jethro Murphey was the master of their "Bear Garden" plantation ship "Betsy". Their father Capt. John Murphey, Sr. (killed in a "chariot" accident") was door keeper at the New Bearn, N.C., constitutional convention when the original door keeper did not show. Allegedly their mother was Elizabeth Harrison of James River, Virginia.  However the Harrisson family at Berkley Plantation could not find her name in their book. I showed the owner's wife pictures of Murphey family oil portraits (one with wig, Michael Murphey) with long odd family noses. She got excited, rushed m up to her old Harrison family portraits with same odd noses. Grizzy Murphey was kin.

Hello: I have noticed your name many times in the Nishnawbe group on Rootsweb while researching the James Gruett line. Unfortunately, I appear to have shown up about a decade too late! After googling you, I joined Genealogy Wise in the hope of crossing paths with other Gruett researchers but, alas, I seem to be alone in my search for my elusive GG grandmother. I am wondering if you have ever come across any records of Harriet Gruett,  born in the Home District of Upper Canada in 1826 to James and Margaret Gruett. Apart from her two marriages, to Barzillai Nash, Bronte ON, 1848, and John Lawrence, Wentworth ON, 1886, I can find no records of her under her maiden name. Having spent the better part of a year researching the Gruett (or Grouette, Grewette, Gruitt, Goroite etc) surname in Ontario, Manitoba, Quebec, Michigan and Ohio, I am convinced that Harriet was the daughter of James Gruett 1895 (or 1887), and the sister of James 1810 and Peter 1814. Just last night I found a footnote in Edward R. Baierlein's book "In the wilderness with the Red Indians: German missionary to the Michigan ..." that mentions that James and Peter had a sister. I also found a highly unflattering description of James, but I digress. Getting back to my search for my GG grandmother, I believe I may have accidentally solved a mystery in the Gruett line. James Jr.'s wife's name is always recorded as unknown but Harriet's second marriage record states her name as Margaret. Of course I can find no records of her either! I would be grateful for any assistance or tips you can offer. Many thanks, Wendy Moore, Toronto ON wendyem@gmail.com
  • Wendy Em

Thank you, Jim, for getting back to me so promptly. Someday I will track down my elusive gg grandmother but right now she's leading me a merry dance. I have contacted some of the researchers who were most active on Rootsweb Nishnawbe during the GRUETT heyday about 10 years ago but, alas, no one has heard of Harriet. I was disappointed that my email to Ted McKissick came back. Do you know if he's still out there somewhere? With thanks, Wendy

    Jim

My Great Grandmother was Amanda Tinkess married to My G Grandfather George Edward Wells. Jim Tinkess gave me a copy of the book he did but our family line from Barney Tinkess he had little on. I was born not far from the property given to the original Donges (Tinkess) at Osnabrouck Centre. I lived approx. 15 miles west of there and this summer was on the road roughly where we figure the Tinkess family lived. I took pictures of of any Tinkess headstones that I saw but haven't uploaded them all as yet.    Sharon

  • Sharon Urquhart

    Jim,

Our small mention is on page 194...7a is my Grandfather Durham, but there were 10 children not 3 and his Mother spelled her name as Tinkess. I had no idea their actual name was Donges until I met Jim Tinkiss and he told me that you had done a wonderful background on this branch back to 1601 in Germany..I only have what he has in the book. I am quite facinated as there are a lot of spots to fill in.  Amanda was the daughter of Davina Bush (and of course Barney) and I can go back centuries on Davina. Your Grandparents and Mother are good looking people. Jim did such a great job.  I also now have a new little twig to add to our tree....Grayson James Urquhart arrived at 10:30 Aug. 30, our 4th Grandson but first Urquhart.    Sharon

My husband's great grandfather was James Frank LaLone, Amity, IA.  His first wife was Eve Pierson.  We believe they were married in MI.  Frank (he used Frank, not James) was born in New York.  His obit said he was born in Ogden, NY but family tradition says he was born on LaLone Island.  One census states his father was born in Fr. Canada and mother born in Eng Canada.  Have you done any research on this family?
  • Mary Ellen Aube

I have just started to research my husbands French-Canadian roots.  His grandparents migrated from the Quecbec area in the early 1900s. would like to join your group.  Thanks.  Mary Ellen Aube

Thank you for adding the link on the Native American vital records on the Mayflower Families site. I found Neg, a servant to Madam Thacher, who married Betty Cunnit.  I've been trying to find the ancestors of my great-grandfather Alexander M. Thatcher, who said nothing about his background, for years.  I'll have to research this couple and see what I find.

Thanks for replying back.  I have been working on this since I first saw the Tremblay genealogy listed in the Michigan periodical "Habitant Heritage" but I only could find the first issue where you recorded your line.  Everything else I have been getting through the auspices of the American-French Genealogical Society in Woonsocket, RI.  They have a good library with many reference material as well as access for Ancestry and the PRDH.  Also, I downloaded your Tremblay line from this site and tried to follow it but the line gets progressively  huge with each generation.  I will look at it again so I can send you any information which you require.  You can also fax me the tree back if you like and make any comments and I will respond back to you.  My fax/phone is 401-568-8245.

    Yours,

    Roland
