Looking for James West b. 1806. in VA.

My info comes from a 1850 & 1860 census taken in Liberty Township, Madison County, Mo.
I have been unable to find the name of his parents or his first wife. His 1st 5 children were born in Tennessee. The remaining children were born in Mo. mothered by Rebecca Wilson, approx. 24 yrs. James junior.
Actually she was the same age as his oldest son John. It seems very likely that wife #1 died in childbirth. It appears that the Wilson family were neighbors in Mo. Rebecca was born in N. Carolina.

My husband is related to James through James & Rebecca's son Samuel Jefferson West.

I was hoping to trace the line back to Europe, but am stumped at this point. Any help would be appreciated.
