What part of NH are your Roundy's from? I have an Edelbert Roundy married to an Anna Merrill in 1878. They lived in Colebrook, NH. Edeldert and his Father, Isaac were from Maine. Any connection?
Hi Judy - surely you jest about my Allen Line. Odds are I will never get any further than my grgrandmother. Her name was Johanna Allen and she was born ca 1846 in NY and her parents were from PA and Canada. That according to the 1880 census. The following I learned from my mom's cousin thru a visit and some letters. She says that Johanna grew up in an orphanage in York PA. (How she got here is a mystery) When she was 21 and working on a farm she was "taken advantage of" by some character last name Julius and had a son Frank Julius. Then she met and married Sam Ferguson. They had children Clayton, Fannie and Annie (Mary Ann) and 3 who died as babies - Sam, Abe and Ada. All but Annie are buried in Mountville Lancaster Co PA When Sam died in 1888 she couldn't afford to keep her family together. By this time Frank had gone back to York Co to live withhis father's people. Clayton went to Harrisburg to work on the railroad. Fannie and Annie were sent to live with some Mennonite families. Annie lived with the Habeckers. She married Luther George Wohlford Bartels in 1900. They are my grandparents.
All this is well and good, but have no idea who Johanna's parents were and how she got to York. The whole thing is a sad, contradictory, but interesting story.
Hi Judy. I have a friend who is working on Davis in the Hanover NH area. I have some photographs of Davis tombstones in that area. If that is the area where yours were, I can look and e-mail them to you. An alternate spelling found on tombstones is Davice. Let me know what first names. Incidently my aunt and uncle once had a lot in Lehigh Acres. I don't know what ever happened to it.
