Is that old Augusta County, Virginia? My Russell, Christian, Henderson, Thompson, etc. families are from there. Possibly my 1800's Guilford/Rockingham Cos., N.C., Malcolm family too, from just over the Virginia border, them earlier from Augusta Co. perhaps?
Great grandfather was Rowan Co., N.C., Lutheran Rev. John Abner Locke Miller; unlike me, a true-believer Christian (I'm simply deist, nothing complicated); I've followed his umbel life and greatly admire him, as I do my other "true-believer" great grandfather, Epis. Rev. Edward Wooten, Sgt/Lt CSA. Going up, I've never found the Locke family connection in Rowan Co., N.C., though one of my hunches was he descended Gen. Francis Locke (perhaps via his mother's Hall family?) I've worked Col. Locke's sons down, Maj. and Capt. Locke, etc., but an incomplete job, also Gen. Locke's daughters. And Gen. Locke's little known brother, George Locke. Rev. Locke Miller wed Mary Ann Pinkston. Gen. Locke bequeathed his daughter nothing as she wed that ("sorry and lazy" or some-such in the will) Moses Pinkston. Even if Moses was Locke Miller's wife's forebear (doubt it), that would not explain Rev. Locke Miller's name? I do descend Gen. Waldron of early New England and the sister of Gen. Barringer (Beringer) of Cabarrus Co., N.C.
O.K., I just answered your Locke question below. I forgot my early Augusta Co., Va., Campbell family. In the late 1950's I was a cadet at nearby Fishburne Military School, Waynesboro, Virginia.
