    Ray, my maternal grandmother was Edna Frances Marentette from Malden, daughter of Francis, also from Malden. The family was in the Malden/Amherstburg area from sometime in the mid 1700's, before which they were in Montreal and the line goes back to Nicolas Gode.

If down Cape Fear River, Southport way, off the Inland Waterway, put into not the Dutchman's Creek side of the nuclear canal (actually passes under the Inland Waterway), but the other "Fish Factory Road" side (no factory) with lower park, then anchorage, continue pass the N.C. State boat ramp until abeam port-side, the Oak Island (on mainland) Park; ahead off you bow, atop the bluff; the two-story blue house with fish-weathervane gazebo is home; free anchorage below.

    Or just put into the Southport State boat anchorage, walk over to PJ's, a great place to eat good, cheaply. And I'll meet you there: a little coffee & genealogy and my lie about that 80-foot wave. No one else believes me.
