GMH SR List C Signature

The signature of Georg Michael Hüttel from one of his Oaths of Allegiance on 5 September 1738, as found in the Strassburger-Hinke Ships' Lists Compendium.

Michael (he was typically German, and was known by what appears to us to be his "middle" name) married a lady by the name of Anna Maria (or Anne Marie, or Ann Mary, depending on how anglicized the document). They eventually patented 171 acres, which now is a very large part of the current village of Emaus, Lehigh, Pennsylvania, USA.

Again, this is his signature, and not the work of a clerk at the dock. He was still signing his name this way as late as 1760, when shortly after receiving his land patent, he also began asking for improvements in his area via road petitions in old Northampton County, Pennsylvania.

"Jurg" is not how he rendered his name. Although several different records from his day do have him recorded that way, they are always someone else's work and their "understanding" of the man they were dealing with, not his.
