He was married in 1917 at Bismarck to Carrie Adeline McClearn. She was born at Iowa Falls, Hardin County, IA in 1901 to Charles R. McClearn and Elida Mae Smith and died in 1961 Waterloo, IA of breast cancer.
James was married 1st to Sophia Roth on 22 Feb. 1909 and they had 2 children together.
