Melville Island in Halifax, Nova Scotia, was where my 5th great-grandfather, Christopher Crary, was imprisoned during the American Revolution. Christopher escaped from Halifax and then volunteered to serve aboard a privateer. He was again captured, this time imprisoned aboard one of the British prison-ships moored in New York harbor.
