Beverly, I have looked back at my files of Castleberry and Kelly and I can't find a definite connection to either family. However, names are common in your families and mine. There possibly is a connection. I just don't see it at this time.
I have saved your information and will keep watching for something. I know my Castleberry family lived in Red Banks MS for many years but the patriarch, Jeremiah Castleberry died (Civil War, I think) and his wife and children (wife: Elizabeth Fowler Castleberry) moved to Travis Co TX after his death.
Thanks for your response. I will be in touch if I can turn up anything. Dodie
I was interested in the process. I am considering applying for membership to the Sons of the Republic of Texas through an enslaved ancestor on the Whitaker line.
I am interested in talking to you abt your Castleberry and Kelly/Kelley lines. I have direct ancestors with both these surnames. Castleberry: MS to TX and Kelly/Kelley: AL to TX.
My Kelly line descends from prob To Bi As Kelly who I beieve married an Upper Creek Indian woman (unk). My g.g.g. grandfather was Tobias Kelly who swore and Oath to the Republic of Texas in 1835 and obtained land in Coryell Co but settled in Atascosa Co TX. Thanks, Dodie
