Adopted Living Children Who Are Unaware...?

Posted on October 30, 2009 at 2:03pm 7 Comments

As far as your record keeping, I presume you'd always want to take note of the fact in your software [Reunion for Mac] entries that someone is adopted. My concern is that someone still living and reviewing the online or published record might discover that fact and be both devastated and dumbfounded by the knowledge...especially if they were previously unaware. Online Genealogy Resources and Costs

Posted on September 21, 2009 at 4:04pm 7 Comments

I'm a novice and one reluctant to immerse too quickly without checking out total costs. I understand the local library could be a good source, especially if they have a Library Subscription to those online sites I might use at home, but at my costs. Well, I just learned my local public library closes at 5:00 p.m. on a regular basis, so it is hardly worth my closer examination of its inner workings. re subscriptions

It depends what stage you are in your research, there are many good free sites. If you are looking for census records, Family Search Pilot site was census records from 1850-1900 then some of 1920, though Footnote has the 1860 images, and 1880 and 1920 don't have images.

Rootsweb and Genforums are good for finding people with the same surname, who may be searching for your same lines.

Also Family Search, the original LDS(Mormon) site is good for starting out, though you have to be wary of some of the pedigrees, I always try to find other sources to back that info.

and Google is a good resource.

Once you have gone through the free sites, then I would decide how much a subscription site would be worth to you.
