I have seen the possibility of John Benedict being married more than once, but have never been 100% certain of his wives and parents either.
I did print out a page from a record in Ancestry, "Kentucky Records, Volume II" page 58, it looks like, it has a listing for "Benedict, John- Bk D. pg. 385- oldest son, John; son Jacob; wife, Mary Magdalin; sons, Benjamin and Anothony; to Susannah VEAch; Cataron Silvers, Hannah Winifree; extras: John and Jacob Benedict and Wm. Silvers. Written Nov. 7, 1809. Probated Jan 18, 1810."
I do admit I have not seen the actual document, and realize the variety of explanations, plus, it's hard to argue with DNA. I do wish we could get DNA done too, but we will have to wait, I am afraid. Plus my sources are not always well noted, so I'm guessing this is a will record, the Header of my printout from Ancestry says, "Kentucky Court and Other Records". So yes, I have to do a lot of back tracking to fix my errors.
Looks like I had jotted down that John and his wife 'may have been buried in Benedict Cemetery' but I do not see them listed in the list on the web page I found for the cemetery (not find a grave). I have been meaning to go there myself and see if all the stones have been photographed, it looks like Cindy Whitis and a couple others took a lot.
This is my husband's line, he is descended from Jacob Shelby Benedict Sr. and Jr. I have done more looking into some of their other lines, (wives etc), but never got much luck with John, but I do think Detrich (possibly Johann Dietrch?) may have been his father.
Please, stay in touch, it's always good to work on these things with others. I am still working on many other lines for both my husband and myself. I had communicated with another person awhile back, I think, about this area of family, but will have to find the printout of the email, I don't remember her name. If you rather use email, just let me know.
Good to hear from you!
Sandy
