I am not assuming that Marguerite and the commanche wife are the same woman. I don't know if there was another marriage. All I know is that the story came through the family and the picture was real. My husband's grandmother was Delyla Isabella McKinney Berry. She was the daughter of William Thomas McKinney and Mary Iobitha Gatlin. He has a cousin that is descended from Lyla's sister, Melynda McKinney Reeder. In the pictures you will see Mary Gatlin and W. T. McKinney with their daughters. Mary usually covered her face with a bonnet.
I think we are probably related. LIlburn Marion Gatlin was an ancestor of my husband's. Before he married Mary Ann Lockard, he married the mother of Mary, Maggie, Felix, Seth, Amanda, Wiliam and Nathan Gatlin. She is listed as Marguerite Dodd in the genealogical information I have from other people. The story in my husband's family is that she was a Commanche woman. They got married in Witchita Falls, I believe. My father in law used to have a picture of them on the courthouse steps, and she wore her Indian dress. Unfortunately, someone broke into his house multiple times while he was gone (he was a railroad engineer) and stole everything that was of value, including the picture. I have Mary Gatlin's autograph book from Buda, Tx.
