Wonderful to hear from a descendant of Jessie McKay-Orr. I've been intrigued by Jessie and her connection to my mother's family for many years, and I'm delighted that my article was of interest to you.
I have recently been in touch with Bill and Karen McKay (near Washington DC), who are descendants of Jessie's younger brother John, and who both know some of the Orr family. Do you know them? I was hoping to visit them sometime next year when we come to the US for a holiday.
I don't have very much information about old Andrew Orr (though I did meet him when I was very young). His parents (your g-g-grandparents) were James Orr and Elizabeth Brough of Galston, Scotland, and they had at least 8 children (7 boys and a girl). Andrew and his older brother James went to Indiana before WW1. I would love one day to find Andrew's military service records—I don't know how he ended up in a Canadian regiment!
A few weeks ago I visited Galston and took photos of a couple of the houses the family lived in. I'd be happy to share any information I have on the family, and if you have an email address, I could link you to my Ancestry.com tree. My email address is kacraig@me.com
I keep in close contact with Glyn McKay (Canberra, Australia). He's my mother's 1st cousin, and he met Jessie McKay-Orr a couple of times in the early 50s. Glyn is now 88, but will be thrilled when I tell him that a descendant of Jessie's has made contact!
