I'd love a copy of your Bruce line! Please send it along... Once I get a scanned version of my photo of James and Mary McNab, I'll send it your way. I'll check out your blog too!
Hey, I can send you a file with the Bruce line that links back. I don't have a photo of James and Mary...very cool. I am just starting my blog at roxanne.comeau@blogspot.com. It is slow but coming along.
How very cool! How are Patrick, John and Mildred all linked back to James Bruce-Mary McNab? I have a photo of James and Mary - do you have one too? I doubt there is more than one.... I have a photocopied version, but am going to try to track down a scanned version. My Mom, Alice Ives, and I are going to Winnipeg this summer, and then back to Calgary to check out the Denney Files. I have recorded 37 possible references to check out. Their archivist had a look at a couple of them for me, and one was over 100 pages long! Needless to say, we'd do better to go there in person rather than paying for copies at $1.00 per page. I hope to get all my info in electronic format and get it up on the internet in some way too. When do you anticipate getting your blog up and running?
Hi Irene, looks like we have some common ancestors. I am just starting my genealogy blog site, and will be putting up some photos. My line is James Bruce - Mary McNab, Patrick Bruce - Eliza Garrioch, John Bruce - Margaret Kennedy, Mildred Bruce - John Wood.
Cheers, Roxanne
Wow Carolyn, I would love any info you may have!!! My Mom and I are planning a trip to Manitoba this summer from Vancouver Island where we both live to visit as many sites as possible, and so any suggestions for us that you or any other group members may have would be much appreciated! The names I am tracing are:
Great Grandmother: Lillian Bruce (married Alexander John Cameron)
Her paternal line:
Benjamin Bruce (born April 1842), His father, James Bruce (B. April 6, 1801), and paternal grandparents: Benjamin Bruce (B. 1770 - Orkney) and Mathilda (Homeguard Cree? Saulteax?). His mother Mary McNabb (1801),and maternal grandparents, John McNabb (debates on whether Sr. or Jr.) and Jane (Jennie) Cook (B. 1788- daughter of William Hemmings Cook and wife #1: Kahna-pawana-kan, Cree B. 1767 we believe)
Her Maternal Line:
Mother - Maria Cook (B. Nov. 28, 1853, or Oct. 30, 1856), and her parents: father - Samuel Cook (B. 1798, or 1804), son of William Hemmings Cook and one of his wifes who are Mathew Cocking's daughters (some believe Wife #2, Ketchecowecomecoot (Betsy) Cocking, or Mary or Agathas Cocking). Her mother - Susanna (Suzette) Short (B. 1815), and parents: James Short (B. 1767, Orkney), and Elizabeth (Bethsy) Saulteaux (B. 1767 or 1783).
