Ok one last thing for now...do you have a subscription to ancestry.com. There is someone on there who has posted their family, (which is also your family) It says that Mary Elizabeth had a couple of children then died, (about 1863) and her husband remarried someone name Frances Taylor and had 10 more children! There is a lot more info on this family tree. If you dont have ancestry.com I think they might have a free trial offer then you could look at this. I was hoping I could download their info but I dont see anyplace for that.
You may already know this, I looked up Schoonovers in the Oregon Death index (as you may know I do live in oregon as well) There was Richard E. there is also an Esther died aug 11, 1944, Guy Richard who died Jan 21, 1943 and Richard H who died feb 8, 1944. If that is of any help

Dear Jacklyn,
Well it appears that our Catlins came from Conneticut, but there is mentions of New York as well. I dont have a lot on them and they have been difficult to find as our "main" guy died early on. Have you seen the book "The Catlin Genealogy" by Louise Catlin Cleaver Roloson. I contacted the Southern California Genealogy Society and they gave me copies of the pages that my Elon Catlin was on, and leading up to his birth. If it is correct then I can go back several generations, I still have more work to make sure the info is right. You might contact them and see if they have your Mary Elizabeth. Elon was born in 1800. He died in Illinois but then his son, Elon jr. came to Oregon (Brookings-Harbor area) California (Healdsburg area). If that is any help to you.

Jacklyn, I took a look at my information. Unfortunately I did not find a Mary with a middle name of Elizabeth, or one that comes close to matching anyone who would have gotten married in 1860.
However, the fact that you have a NY connection might mean that we are connected, and I just don't have it down.
In any case, check the censuses for Oregon to start tracking back the son from 1930. You might figure out something to help you find out how your family traveled. I bet there is some truth to the stories you have been told.
Thanks for getting in touch!!
I do not have any of the names on your list. None of the other surnames do I know. My Schoonover's came from Holland to New York, to Delaware, to New Jersey, to Virginia and settled in West Virginia. I would like to keep in contact . If you go back far enough, we might have some names in common.
