I am new to Genealogywise but have been researching my family for 40 years now. My Familie came to America from Fahrwangen in 1850. They landed in New York and departed from LaHavre, France. Rudolf Rey(1811-1856), his second wife, Anna Doebeli(b. 1805), his two sons by his first wife, Susanna Hochstrasser(1812-1840), Rudolf(1836-1914) and Samuel(1838-1907)[my great grandfather], Jakob(1839-1888)-this Jakob was the son of Anna Doebeli and her first husband(also Jakob Rey and a cousin of Rudolf b.1811), and finally Anna Elisa(1841-1930). They first went to Highland, Illinois and also Xenia, Illinois. Rudolf passed away at the age of 56. I have no idea where he was buried. During the Civil War, Rudolf(1836-1914) enlisted in Comany C, 111th Illinois Infantry. His brother, Samuel, enlisted in a unit called The Oregon Escort formed to guard wagon trains on the Oregon Trail. Eventually, after several adventures the family ended up in Hanford and Visalia, California where I am originally from. Samuel returned to Fahrwangen in 1876 and married Luisa Zobrist then returned to Hanford where he had some 160 acres. Jakob also returned to Switzerland and passed away in Lenzburg in 1888.
In 1878, some of our Hochstrasser cousins came to California and lived with the Reys. They were the nephew and cousins of Susanna Hochstrasser. All of these ancestors are buried either in the Old Hanford Cemetery or Visalia.
