Thanks for sharing this info! We are 5th cousins, twice removed (I think) as your 3rd Great-Grandfather Silas Evertt Cooley (1866 IN - ? TX) is my 3rd cousin, twice removed. My pedigree is on Ancestry.com at http://tinyurl.com/347x2fq . My 5th cousin (he is a closer cousin to you) Michael Hugh Cooley has a great deal of info on our Cooleys at http://www.ancestraldata.com/ahnentafel/256/ . See the many links there, especially this one: http://www.ancestraldata.com/ahnentafel/256/y-desc.html . Michael, myself and many other Cooleys have done Y-DNA tests proving we are related and NOT Dutch as many Cooley pedigrees on Ancestry.com wrongly (and without proof) claim. Our Cooleys are from somewhere in the British Isles, most likely England or Scotland. (Ireland cannot be ruled out, but appears less likely.) Do you have any info on where our Cooleys came from? If so I love to see it.

BTW, I was born in Kirksville, Adair, Missouri in 1952, but left for points West within a month. I went to the University of Colorado in Boulder, Colorado and grad school at Stanford University in Palo Alto, CA. I've been working as a Senior Research Physicist at SRI International two miles north of Stanford the past 30 years. I live in Fremont, CA with my wife Yolanda and son Patrick.
