Yes, you do have the correct person. Nicholas Van Slyke was my great-great-grandfather. His daughter, Mary, was the wife of my Stephen Haines. My father, Nathan Bugg, grew up in Chesley. His mother was Nancy Ann Haines.
Thanks for all your help, Jo-Ann.
Thanks for your help, Jo-Ann. I have accessed the 1871 Census and by that time my Stephen Haines is living in Perth County (Kirkton/Woodham). That is the only location I have ever seen for him, although he was apparently born in Canada. It's interesting that Benjamin is about the same age as my Stephen and had a son named Stephen. Perhaps Benjamin and my Stephen are siblings. I wish I could give you more information, but Stephen's early years, parents etc. are a real brick wall for me. If you do ever come across any other information, I'd really appreciate hearing from you, but please don't spend a lot of time. Thanks.
Hi Jo-Ann. I notice that you have a connection with the Haines family and that you live in an area which may have a link to my Haines ancestors. My great-grandfather was Stephen W. Haines and my grandmother was Nancy-Ann Haines. Both of them lived in your neck of the woods. Have you run into their names in your research, by any chance?
