Oops - “GRIP is the acronym for” - haha. Stupid autotext changed my words.
Hi Linda,
GRIP is the for the Genealogical Research Institute of Pittsburgh. They’ve been around for about eight or ten years, I think. It was a great experience! Usually, it’s on-site, weeklong courses in one track, but this year they’re going virtual because of COVID-19. I believe they’re still taking registrations. There are three weeks offered this year, each with a number of tracks to choose from. The forensics course is postponed until next year because of its hands-on nature.
I am wondering if you received my reply to your request?
Many thanks.
Sorry but I cannot find the reply I made to your question. My GGGrandfather was born in Canada in 1801 so I assume his parents arrived withing a couple years of that date. However we do not know if they were elsewhere on their way to Ontario. At one time I was able to search the Connecticut records from here on the west coast of Canada but cannot do that now for some reason. I had found a Samuel Smith and Sara Ward but lost that information or did not think it was relevant. Many thanks for your interest. I hope this finds you.
My ggrandfather was born in 1801 in Ontario so I can only assume his parents arrived in a year or about this date. Unfortunately I do not have any concrete information other than a census saying his parents both came from Connecticut and we are guessing at Samuel Smith and Sara Ward because of a will we have found in probate in Ontario Canada. There is no record of his birth in Preston, Ontario and the first child said to have been born there was a girl in 1808 - seven years later than his birth.
I am still trying to locate information on a Samuel Smith and Sara Ward (may have the name Fenner in her family) who lived in Connecticut in late 1700's. My gggrandfather James C. Smith indicated his parents came to Ontario from there in a Michigan census prior to his death. A book states a road was built from Toronto area to Kitchener or Grand River area by a SMITH and WARD but no first names provided. Any information from Connecticut or Ontario would be appreciated. I live in British Columbia. Many thanks.
