"Hello,
I am very new (today) and still unfamiliar with the site so forgive my early ignorance! My comment is directed at George MacGillivray - I am a direct descendant of the Acadian Godin Family. While there is a plethora of information and even my…"
I read with interest your note on the mtDNA results for Genevieve Roy.
(Note: The 1752 census calls Genevieve's husband, Jean Fournier, Charles Roy's
son-in-law, which establishes that Genevieve Roy was Charles's daughter, but
does not show that she was Marie-Charlotte Chauvet's daughter, because the
possessive is singular ("son gendre") in the census, and not plural ("leur
gendre"). Various records in the parish registers of Louisbourg show that
Marie-Charlotte Chauvet was the mother of Charles Roy's younger children, but
no such proof exists for Geneviève, or her older brother, Pierre. This lineage
consequently cannot be carried further back with any degree of certainty at the
present time, pending the possible discovery of additional evidence.)
What about Genevieve's older sister Marguerite, and brother Alexandre are they
considered to be of both Charles Roy and Marie Charlotte Chauvet? Also, where
does Pierre Roy come into the picture. I have no record of a Pierre being son
of Charles Roy.
Could you please enlighten me if you can?
I greatly admire your work. A truly monumental legacy!!
