I had originally thought my 3rd great grandfather was William McCoy of
Ballyhallaghan. But Annabelle's marriage record proves this William was much too
old to be my William. My William was born about 1837 and was the son of
Andrew McCoy of Beragh. Maybe your William was the brother of Andrew McCoy
from Beragh.
The surname is actually McKay. It was often spelled like they pronounced it
in Northern Ireland as there were no spelling standards at the time. All my
McKay family came from around this area. You can find my 3rd great grandfather William McCoy living with his sister Eliza in Donaghanie in the Clogherny Parish in the 1901 and 1911 census of Ireland.
Your William went to Cambridge Mass as well.
His wife was Eliza Stinson. Here they are in the Cambridge census of 1870 and 1880
Here is William's death record his father was Arthur which makes me wonder if this Arthur was also the father of Andrew making him my 5th great grandfather.
Hi Marilyn:
Unfortunately I haven't been able to get back past a William MCCOY born abt. 1730, probably in Maryland. After he died in 1764, his widow, Ann(a) and 3 children moved to Bedford Co., VA, and married a John STUMP. Her son William MCCOY, Jr. was my husband's gr.gr.gr. grandfather. His descendants moved to Breckinridge Co., KY, in the early 1800s.I have no idea where the senior William MCCOY came from.

The problem you were having finding William McCoy in the Griffiths is
Ballyhallaghan is not in Termonmaguirk Parish. It is in Clogherny Parish. The
Townland is just south of Six Mile Cross. Here is a map of the townlands in the Clogherny Parish.

Here is the Griffiths Valuation where he is listed.

I would not be surprised at all if we were distantly related. Your Annabella
and my William were likely 1st cousins.
