Hello, Mark, unfortunately, the furthest my husband's Strain line can be traced back to is his ggggrandfather, William Strain, who was born in South Carolina in 1803. By the 1820s he was in St. Tammany Parish, Louisiana. There are two groups of Strains in Louisiana, one in south Louisiana and the other in north Louisiana, but no one has ever been able to connect them. My husband descends from the south Louisiana Strains. It is believed that William Strain was born in Lancaster County, South Carolina, but no one has found his father yet. Those of us who have met via the web researching the family are all going to be at a Strain family reunion in Covington, Louisiana, in June. Hopefully, we can compare information and find some clue to help in our research. I think the family generally believes they are Scottish. There's a tale that 3 brothers came over from Scotland, but I have found that many families have that same story. There were two Strain brothers in south Louisiana at first, William and David. As far as we can tell, David never married. I've been thinking that the Strains are perhaps Scotch-Irish as there were Scotch-Irish settlements in South Carolina way back then. DNA may eventually help, but it's so hard to understand. Keep in touch. I'm glad to share whatever I can find. Livvy Strain
