Nice to meet you, Patti! I am indeed in St. Paul. My daughter actually did the test and I am following up because she is in New York - when you see her name - it is me most of the time. She is in New York doing a fellowship in toxicology so doesn't have a lot of free time. We have been having a great time looking into family history as time permits.
Is the kit number the same as ged? Its 418263 if it is. Since its mitochondrial dna, if we are a close match you should be looking for women with maiden names of Fox (my maiden name-did not take my husbands last name), Diemert, Welter, Warner, Thillen, Breier in my direct maternal line. I don't know of any children adopted out in the family but will start asking. Also, there is a woman on ancestry.com, starlight2me2 who is older and has extensive knowledge. I know I am related to her as we share a great great grandfather. If you have ancestry dna tests as well, she might be able to help you find matches. I just sent in the ancestry dna so will have additional information there as well.

We are actually trying to solve a family mystery - a jewish stick pin was found among my grandmother's things but we've always been catholic. There is a strong association with the Ashkenazi jewish population in this haplogroup which affirms that the pin is associated to family history. Although we've always been told that we are French Canadian and Luxembourgish through my mother, research shows that it is actually mostly german.
