I'm sorry to be so late in replying - I've had a break from genealogy.
My latest ancestor near Newcastle is:

Michael Nicholson bn 1784 Winlaton, he wed:
Mary Shotton bn 1792.
They lived in North Shields in 1841 with their large family. Their son, another Michael moved to Hartlepool. I have no info on the doings of the siblings who stayed behind on the Tyne. Perhaps your forebear originates from them. The name is not uncommon in the north of England (with its centre around Carlisle).

If you don't mind me asking, which Robert L Harris are you named after? My Great Grandfather was Robert Lee Harris, and my Great Uncle Robert Lee Harris Jr., the former from Arkansas and the latter from Missouri.
