I left a message for you yesterday, but I can't tell whether you received it or not. My adoptive father's great grandmother was Hannah Polk, who was married to Alexander Weddington. Have a look at my adoptive family tree on Ancestry (see my profile page, or just look for "Debra Munn's Adoptive Family" tree at Ancestry. What is your connection to the Polks?
i'm not sure whether you want suggestions on the name or generally on research, my suggestions would be to collect as much info as poss on his family such as birth dates etc names datesand towns in essex then you have a reasonable start, be aware some names are common to areas and can be qauite difficult to trace, also join a surname group and area group and there are many valuable resources about
