I don't know anything about Jean Gordon. According to everything I've seen his second wife's name was Matheson.
Ann's name was Matheson, too. I just don't know what family she was from. My cousin printed pages from a microfilm reel at a Family History Center - pages which contained the name Matheson, so we could figure out how many of them we could recognize. The marriage record began in 1791, but he apparently didn't see their record because I don't have that. But I have the births of all their children, and they say Alexander Matheson and Ann Matheson, tenant in Corraig (which is spelled in different ways). I did catch the Rev. Alexander Sage in one mistake, giving the wife's married name instead of her maiden name, and if he made the mistake once he could have done it again, but not five times. I also have the marriage record and the three children of his second marriage. They usually say Jean Matheson, once Janet. I do not know what family she was from, either.
I'm having trouble following the thread. These messages seem to be jumping around, so I may be saying something someone else has alread said.
Hi,
When I saw your name, Samuel Murray, I thought you must be descended from John Matheson and Catherine Pritchard, as those are both names from their line. John and my great-grandfather, Angus (b. 1810 in Balnavaliach, Kildonan, Sutherlandshire) were sons of Alexander Matheson, whom we guess was born about 1781. If this is your family, I would love to share information.
If you are descended from the Alexander b. in Coirag about 1771, I would like to learn more about his family, too, as we have been trying to figure out who he was and who he married. We (Red River Settlement researchers) have lots of questions about them. Previous statements in the history aren't verified by recently discovered records.
