Thanks, Susan, for your reply.  I'm home now and will try to get up enough nerve to contact that Bangor archivist once again. I do believe he was embarrassed when I showed up there at the end of June and he had never really responded to my February e-mail.  Udowil/Ildoel/Ildoorl is probably a farm, now that I think of it, as many of the farms in Norway were named when we visited there.  Hopefully he or one of his secretaries can locate some sort of map.  I see there are several sorts where the Explorer map seems to have the most detail.  You would think he would be interested in the historical mapping choices, but I just hope I'll get a response this time.  Wish me luck!  Carolyn
