Hi Ted - If your public library subscribes to Heritage Quest, you may be able to access it at home with a library card. Al;so www.familysearch.com has some census records. These are both free services, other than what a library card may cost. If you will tell me your e-mail address I can e-mail you the census pages from ancestry at no cost to you. I haven't done a whole lot of research on the Snook line other than the direct line and I did some research on James Howard Snook who was dean of the Ohio State University Veterinary School and won 2 gold medals in the 1920 Olympics, but ended up dying in the electric chair in Columbus OH. If you google him, you can get the whole sad story.
Ted, the 1870 census shows your Levi with his parents Levi and Mary Snook in Lamar Twp. Clinton Co. The elder Levi was the brother to my grgrandmother. The younger Levi is with his sister Barbara age 23 and an Emma Snook age 4. She would be too young to be a sister so probably a neice. The 1880 census shows your Levi with his wife Harriet and the 1920 census shows him in Los Angeles CA with wife Sarah.
Levi Snook was my grgrandmother's brother. She was Sophia Snook, daughter of Maria Christina Kleckner and Mathias Snook. Maria Christina is buried at Shracktown which no longer exists, west of Loganton. Sophia was married to Philip Wohlford. They are buried in Loganton along with a bunch of other relatives. Good to meet a cousin on here. I also started a Wolford-Wohlford group here. I specialize in Wohlford - Wolford research.
Philip and Sophia's youngest daughter Sophia Jane married Charles Calvin Bartels who was at that time a Lutheran minister in Loganton. He later changed churches and served in John Winebrenner's Church of God the rest of his life.
Is your Snook family from Central PA - like Union, Clinton and Centre Counties? My grgrgrandmother was Sophia Snook daughter of Mathias Snook and Maria Christina Kleckner.
