From what I have been able to find out, my grandfather, William Andrew Hughes was born August 10, 1893. He said on the copy of the marriage license I got from Claremore, Oklahoma when he and my grandmother, Josephine Thompson were married that he was from Wyandotte County, Kansas. They married on April 21, 1926. Evidently, they had met down at Galveston, Texas. She was pregnant when they married because my Dad, James Barrie Hughes, was a full-term 10-lb. baby when he was born December 15, 1926.
They had separated not long after they had married because there was a difference of opinion as to where they wanted to live. I can see that because my grandmother was a strong-willed person.
I suppose he divorced her, but we don't know where/when. I found a William Andrew Hughes in Missouri who was a journalist with a newspaper there. The last dates I saw when he was writing for a newspaper were in the 1970's. She was always interested in writing stories so I wondered if that was something they had in common or if that was what she was doing to try to keep in contact with him. I just don't know.
My grandmother, Josephine Thompson Hughes, died in January, 1980. She made my mother promise not to try to find him until she was dead. I am trying to help my mother, Naomi Hughes, unearth whatever information I can find.
