Your great grandfather, John August Vodden, was born in Devon and came over to the US in 1872. His father, Henry Vodden, and his wife, Mary Ann Hayman, emigrated in 1881 when they were in their 50's and settled just west of Chicago. Your great grandfather obviously wanted to explore west as he ended up in North Dakota and the family has spread from there to Utah, Oregon, & California. The other two brothers and the two sisters that emigrated stayed in the Malta, IL area where Henry and Mary Ann are buried. My great grandfather, the fourth son, stayed in Devon and it wasn't until my parents emigrated with me and two of my sisters in 1956 did his branch emigrate to Canadian soil. Do you know of your second cousins in Utah & California and an 8th cousin also in Santa Barbara? Linda
Hi Keith: Happy to see you having an interest in this site. You are my third cousin. If you have any questions on the Vodden ancestry, please let me know. Thanks, Linda
