One faded black and white photo and my life would change.......

   

     Sifting through old photographs one day with my mom, I felt drawn to one of a young man in dirty overalls, haunting eyes, and beautiful hands.  When she told me this was her grandfather, Pietro, and she never knew him, I hungered to know more about him.

James W. French was possibly born in New York in 1821 his father James French was born in New Fairfield Conn in 1798 and moved to Bradford Co. PA as a boy with his family. He may have lived in New York City where he moved after fighting in the War of 1812. I spend a lot of time digging through the handwritten census on Internet Archive.org. Just trying to make some connections with my FRENCH family research.
