A Tribute To My Mother – Mother’s Day 2012

This past weekend was Mother’s Day. I had a lovely day with my oldest son and husband. We had lunch and went to see The Hunger Games which I enjoyed. My favorite thing to do is watch movies so if you’re wanting to do something special for me, take me to a movie, pretty much any movie, and I will be happy.

Lots of my friends were posting messages on Facebook and Twitter about Mother’s Day. Some were photos and little tributes to their own mothers while some were photos of them spending…

Neighbors, Who Are They, Why Are They Important

Neighbors, why are we tracking them, I only want to do my lines?  I hear that statement pop up often and it blows my mind.  Yesterday I presented a talk on," Who are your Neighbors?"

Let's look at why we look at neighbors. To do this in full we start with our neighbors. Is your neighbor just the house next door, or your genealogy buddy's near you, close friends and sometimes family?  Why look at them, again you say, well because to find your lost kin you have to be on the…

Neils Hansen Queensland Australia.

Little is known about the early life of Neils Hansen. My great grandfather was born in 1860 in Assens Denmark to Lars Hansen and Mary Heinricksen. He married my great grandmother Mary Kate Meehan at Laidley Queendland Australia on 29/12/1839 - I have a marriage certificate. He died on 11/6/1899 - I have a death certificate. He came to Queensland on some ship at 21 or younger. Any tips appreciated.

Muhammad Yunus and his Legacy on Poverty

Note: This article was originally published in January 2008:

This past week I had the privilege of seeing Muhammad Yunus speak at a World Affairs Council of Houston luncheon. Yunus, of Bangladesh, is a 2006 recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize and a 1999 recipient of the Indira Gandhi prize for peace, disarmament and development in India.

In the late 1970′s, he started Grameen Bank (“Bank of Villages”, in Bangla) to address the…

Genealogy and my imagination

A stream of consciousness : my imagination

History is always on my mind. I set my imagination up nearly wherever I go. When I get real quiet-like, and stare off into space, especially on a long car ride, you can bet I'm on a high imagination kick. I drive past that parking garage downtown and I'm imagining my ancestor's old blacksmith shop that used to be on that very piece of land: the musty dark shadowy shop, the air filled with sparks and powder, light sifting in through…

Genealogy is Family History made fun. The learning of the funny stories, sad stories, glad stories

you some ideas to dwell on before we take to charts and forms.

1.  You do not need to leave your home to start.  Look around your home, remember where various

Gone But Never Forgotten

Linda Bruce AKA Mom AKA Bon went home to be with the Lord on Monday April 23rd.  Here is her obit.

We had unofficially adopted each other.  She was an angel here on earth and now she is an angel up in Heaven.  I am trying so hard not to cry because she wouldn't want that but I miss hearing her voice and seeing her online.  I love you mom!!!
