Library Ed Footnote

Recently went to Wilmington NC to their local historical collection in the downtown library.  They have a subscription to Footnote.  Its a nice database with things from the civil war, census documents and for some states naturalization records.  You really should check this out at a library near you.  I found my grandparents naturalization paper, and consequently I know now where they were born.  Thanks Footnote.

Sharing Photos With My Friends

I’m often not sure what the age range of my readership is, but probably most of you are not too young to remember the old-style accordion photo wallets that people (primarily grandmothers) used to keep in their purses before the advent of digital devices that not only make phone calls, but serve as virtual luggage for all of our digital data, including photos.

A photo wallet is a sleeve of connected plastic photo cases that usually fold up in an accordion fashion upon themselves.…

Archival Photo and Slide Scanning Services

In January of 2008, Money Magazine wrote an article comparing 6 of the most popular scanning services. They sent 40 prints to the six different companies and rated them on cost, turnaround time and scan quality.

The top rated company was ScanCafe. ScanCafe operates out of Bangalore India so when you send photos to them, they are shipped over to India to be…

upchurch family of georgia

I am trying to find any information on a Sarah Jane Jones that married a Elbert Upchurch 21 Dec. 1856 in Upson Ga. I have bits and pieces, but nothing really concret. They would have been my 2x great grandparents. Elbert was killed in the Civil War and the only sure thing I have is that Sarah in 1910 is living in Muscogee Co Ga. with a granddaughter Belle Vinson who was my grandmother. Sarah and Elbert might have had a daughter Mary born 1862 in Ga. I know far a fact that Mary married a James R.… Continue

Busy with ProGen Study Group Assignments

I am working on my marketing plan for gsgenealogy and next month the business plan is due.  I took a SBDC course in developing a Business Plan but there were no sample plans for Genealogy research available from the resources they provided.  The template they provided was a useful tool to begin the marketing plan.

My debut here

So far the user interface is REALLY clunky and very non-intuitive.  I very much do not like having to use my name and identify my location.  I have nothing to hide, but this blog has no reputation that I've heard of, it just happens to be convenient to my course.  My blog is on LiveJournal, and likely to stay there.

I would like to join a group, but they are not well-described, or easy to find.

I'm not planning to post any genealogy information here, but it's…

Oldies But Goodies

Years ago when genealogy first appeared on the net, there was  what was called a genealogy web ring that was built up by  various sites from individuals with a passion for genealogy facts and figures. and  of the early sites was

I decided to revisit this site and was amazed at the changes. What started out as a… Continue

Sentimental Sunday Thoughts

This Old House

Wish I could remember the words. But this old house is soon to be no more.

This old house was home from fall 1948 until Jan 10, 2011.  At that time it crossed over to being

a reminder of what we had, what we could have had and what we were denied.

This old house had it's timbers rocked and it's soul fulfilled many times over in it's life time.

We started…
