Last year we completed an almost 3-hour biography on a 97 year old local woman. It was an incredible project to work on. Not only is she smart and vibrant but she had a lot of energy and we were able to do some remarkable video B-roll. We have shots of her driving her car, talking about her childhood in front of the home she was born in, giving us a tour of the artwork in her church that she and her late husband had commissioned as well as extensive stories and recollections from her 97…

2013 marks the 10 year anniversary of Legacy Multimedia. It will be later this fall and I will commemorate the decade in a fitting manner…. later.
Right now, with the new year, and this huge blank slate of time before me, I want to focus on my new mantra regarding my own personal history, “get ‘er done!” (Since I live in Texas, I can talk to myself in cowboy language.)
Right about the time that I was starting Legacy Multimedia, I also started the long and complex process of…

Looking for family connections to the Maraghy family of Donegal. There are many spellings. My maternal family hails from Hugh Maraghy (married to Bridget McGonigle). Their children, for whom I have records, all immigrated to Boston in the mid/late 1800s.

Lately I have been thinking about my Dad's father. He passed away when I was seventeen, and although I had known him all that time, I haven't appreciated something wonderful about this quiet man.
I called him Nono, the Italian word for grandfather. I remember him as someone who sang Italian songs softly, and told the story of The Three Billy Goats Gruff. I would beg for this story until he would acquiesce, telling it the same way over and over, making his voice sound mean when…

One faded black and white photo and my life would change.......
Sifting through old photographs one day with my mom, I felt drawn to one of a young man in dirty overalls, haunting eyes, and beautiful hands. When she told me this was her grandfather, Pietro, and she never knew him, I hungered to know more about him.
He came to this country in the early 1900's looking for work and a new way of life for his wife and four children. My great-grandfather, Pietro…

James W. French was possibly born in New York in 1821 his father James French was born in New Fairfield Conn in 1798 and moved to Bradford Co. PA as a boy with his family. He may have lived in New York City where he moved after fighting in the War of 1812. He is said to have worked as a printer although we have no proof this particular James French we found in Ward 4 is our ancestor. So here I follow the two James French's and I loose them in New York. Where in New York were James W.…
