Part 1 – Overview (This will be part 1 of a 5 part series)
Okay, admit it. What do you normally think when someone announces, “It’s time to show Home Movies”? You mentally roll your eyes while giving them a blank stare or at best, a forced smile don’t you? That’s because most home movies are dreadfully boring affairs with no audience appeal outside the immediate family. The joy of these events is often lost in the transition from live experiences to the screen. Well, it doesn’t have…

Saturday Review Society Saturday and Surnames Saturday Combined
Virginia, and ten others from our society went to the SDGS meeting in Mission Valley, CA.
We listend to Dr. Thomas Jones talk about Research and Methodology.
He eloquently stated much of what I do and learned for everyone to understand the term: "Leave No Rock Unturned",
means exactly that. {My term, not his} He showed this in charts and graphs and words and census and…

Bloggers Topics and Comments That Moved Me this Week.
For me, an interesting week has passed. I just blogged over on my other site about the communities doings of this last week.
But I want to share my thoughts on some of the outlying data that reached out to my mind. I think they carry more weight than all the judging contests ever could.
I loved when someone said, " Why do you do Genealogy?" " Why would you recommend someone to do…

Hello,
Hoping someone can help me as I am terribly stuck.
My GGGG grandparent were Charles Sheppard and Elizabeth Mary Grubb.
The only ones I have been able to find is a Charles and Elizabeth Mary that married in East Wickham 28 May 1826. I don't know his parents, her's to my knowledge is a James Grubb and a Sarah Charnock.
My problem is the first born son was born in Bethnal Green, 24 Oct. 1822, why would they marry 4 years after his birth? Plus this would have…

I was delighted to see that at least one person has joined Genealogists for Families after reading my comment on GenealogyWise. If you are not familiar with Genealogists for Families, you may want to read about the inspiration for the project. Our motto is, "We care about families (past, present and future)." The project received the 2011 GeneaBlog Award for 'Best New…

Here it is January 4, 2012, and I'm blogging about my new years resolutions. That might seem late and may even seem strange, since one of my resolutions is to end procrastination. Please bear with me as I explain the reasons.
Resolution Concepts
1. Do less.
2. Do more.
3. Do nothing.
4. Do it now.
5. Do for others.
6. Do for myself.
7. Do it in order.
8. Do the math.
These…

I trying to find out more information on my grandmother's side of the family. Klein's, lived in Sayerville Long Island in the late 1880's. My great grandfather was born in Germany and moved to America around 1867.
Around 1920 they moved to Norwalk Connecticut. I found some family in Connecticut and I know there are more. It's the married names that changes a lot of things and makes it harder to find.
Thanks,
Deb Myers

Anyone with any detail large or small on our family name would be so much appreciated. There are many variants of the name, Clinenboomer, Clinkenbroomer or ..vroomer, Clink, Klangenbaumer. So you see our difficulties. Thanks for anything you can add to our sketchy history.

So many people will go to ancestry or another site and say OH look I found my entire tree already done for me. whats the fun in that?
I have had many people say that they copied info from another tree just to find out later it was wrong. You cannot write a family history by copying someone elses. You miss out on all the fun and the thrill of discovering new records and info on someone in your tree on your own.
I have had to use paid researchers on my Northern roots and to me…

Defining the Genealogy Community - Comments and Thoughts
Interesting how the "Hot Topics" show up at the busy time. More importantly one wants to answer the
query with serious thought and not provocation.
Having read that there was a comment: "Are Bloggers the New Experts?", I had to set on my response a bit.
Blogging in no way makes anyone an expert, but it does let someone who may be an expert in some area or arena of…

I buy old photos when ever and where ever I see them when they are priced reasonably. Then I post them on my facebook page and when someone can claim them I return them free of charge to the family.
Check it out and see if any of yours are there.
