Christmas is Almost Here,

 Christmas is Almost Here

I have been doing the Advent of Christmas on one of my blogs. I will print it out Christmas Eve and put in folders for the various adult members of our family.

I think it was a great thing to do so I could share data about Christmas's past. It seems we seldom set around and talk about what we did last year or the year before or ten years ago.  So the younger generation is not getting the information passed down to them to carry…

"In the Beggining"

I originally decided to start searching my families genealogy when there was a scare that my mother was very ill and was told my mother had 6-8 more weeks to live.  She was diagnosed with Pulmonary Artery Disease.  With lots of prayers she is still with us today.

I was very courteous about my family origin.  All my grandparents had all past away before I was born and because of family drama not much was said about them.  My mother talked about how different her parents were…

More on Pictures, Bunnies are Special

These darling bunnies were born in October while I was at our sons.  The Mom has a black with gold flecked coat and so do some of the younger ones.

I raised white and black bunnies but do not recall ever any red ones or orangebrown coated bunnies.

I bet they are double in size almost now. Bunnies grow quickly and they are called Kits.

My…

Dennis Sullivan b1855

I am researching my great grandad. I know he was from Cork, Ireland & that he moved to Brighton Sussex & married Sarah Ann Patching in 1880. I have their marriage cert, his father was of the same name, deceased at that time. I have all the census from that time forward but, know nothing of his life in Ireland or how he travelled here. If anyone can help I would be very grateful. I have tried Roots Ireland,Ancestry,Genes Reunited & others but, without success. Thanks Anne

Just Starting Here

Hi, Just learned about this site last night and thought I would atleast give it a try. I have been doing family research for a very long time. Of course I have hit alot of brick walls along the way and I'm trying to chip away at them. So that is another reason why I am here, to try and find help or to try and give help. Right now I'm working on the following names, Dawson, Bible, French, Myrick, Edging, Shaver and Claxton. I have so many names in the family tree, but right now these are my…

Sorting Saturday Pictures and more Pictures

Sorting Saturday

Actually I started sorting yesterday so items could be sent to others.  I did not have those items until I went through the boxes I acquired from my Mom's estate.

I find some of the items have been presorted and will be sent on to others. I thought my brother and sister and I had presorted them all before I brought them home. I guess not. I know I left envelopes of pictures for nieces and nephews and brothers and sons before I left northern…

Two Brick Wall Dead Ends- Where Next?

In my 35+ years of genealogy researching I have had two brick walls that I can't seem to overcome. Both involve surname changes and both changes occurred in early 1800's making it very difficult to find help.

My first one involves my mother's side of the family. Her father was a King. Her greatgrandfather King was Edward King and, from all census records, he was born approximately around 1808. One record shows he was born in Campbell County, Va. There were Kings in that county at that…

My Brickwall Ancestor: George Clark, born circa 1881

I'm trying to find info on my grandfather, George Clark. My paternal grandmother was Estelle "Stella" Prickett, b. 1880, Pleasantville, Marion County, Iowa. George may have been born in Illinois as there is a reference to this on a census page for my father. Obtaining his sister's SS-5 did not prove fruitful as she lists the name of their stepfather in the space for father.

Photographs or Snapshots?

My father, Martin Elkort, is a collected and noteworthy photographer. His body of work, shot during a period of enormous possibility in our country, evokes feelings of both excitement and nostalgia in those that view and collect his photographs. Since my dad has become collectible, I’ve been to many of his shows and talked to gallery owners and collectors about his work and their own collections. The question always comes up whether I…
