Elizabeth Szilagyi Bertalan and her sons and grandchildren

This photo is of my great-great-grandmother Elizabeth Szilagyi Bertalan and on the far left is my great-grandfather (Emery Bertalan).  The man next to him I now believe to be his brother Louis Bertalan.  The very tall young man in the rear and the girl in front of him are probably his (Louis') children.  The young boy in the front and the two younger girls are my great-grandfather's children from his second marriage...my grandfather's half-siblings.…

Unknown Hungarian relative: Picture of the week 6/5/14

On the back of this photo it says "The church where Lajos and others are."   We aren't sure who Lajos or the others are and we don't know where this is located either.

UPDATE: June 10, 2014

After viewing this picture some very kind soul did some research and found this Brooks House was the Brooks Settlement House in Hammond, Indiana.  I…

looking for info on John Henry Ehlenberg, from Venne, Germany

Both of my parents lived somewhat east of Pittsburgh. My mother's g-grandfather was John Henry Uhlenberg, who was born in 1822 in Hanover, and sailed from Bremen, arriving in Baltimore on 25 May 1840. He indicated his place of origin was Venne, Germany, but he was the only person of that name on that voyage, so I'm not sure that I would find any information about him in Udo Thoerner's Venne book.  Mr. Euhlenberg had at least one daughter, Mary Eva, who was born in Wexford PA in 1847.  One of…

Reading About Women in Our Past

Found this book at Barnes & Nobles.  It is called 4,000 Years of Uppity Women.

 It is by Vicki Leon.

Talk about a genealogical adventure in many early lines of the past, it will curl your hair, tickle your funny bone and leave you amazed.

If one has early Turkish, Mesopotamian, Mid East back ground you might want to sneak a peak at it.

Having a glimmer of one of these lines I thought it might be interesting.  That was an…

The Ontario Genealogical Society will host the Society's annual conference on 29-31 May 2015 at Georgian College Campus, Barrie, ON, Canada.  The conference theme -- “Tracks through Time” – originates from the 130th Anniversary of the completion of the Canadian Pacific Railway across Canada.  Many family historians have their roots in the immigrant laborers who built this railway across our vast country.  Other ancestors were tempted by the transportation routes and…

Whitlock's decendants of Samuel and Lena Marie

My grandfather was Samuel Whitlock. He was born in Jackson Co, Missouri in 1878 to Robert and Laura A. Whitlock. He married Lena Marie Frost around 1907. They had 3 children that I am positive of. Sylvester Whitlock born 1908. Carmen Alvesta Whitlock born 1909, and Harold Leonard Whitlock born in 1913. There may have been one other child named Anna Mae. Samuel (my grandfather) was killed in the Athletic mine near Duenweg Missouri in 1917. Grandmother died in June of 1917. All of the children…
