New Year is Here, Are You Ready?

The New Year is here, are you ready?  Have you set at least one goal to accomplish regarding your genealogy?

Goal setting is more important than resolutions.  It gives you purpose and direction. It helps to put you back on track when we fall off.  O we do a lot of that falling off.  At least I do.  When researching and another family name pops up within the confines of the search I am already doing it is hard to not, stop and gather in the data.  Then because you have found…

New Perspective

I've been working on my maternal line for years and I come up empty handed at every turn it seems like. I think I've found something only to find out that the information isn't right or it doesn't match the person in my tree. I've got a few 90 year old great aunts who have given me as much information as they can on the family, but the details are starting to get fuzzy. My grandpa (these are his parents I'm researching) was the baby of the family and knows next to nothing about how his…

Joel Thomson Kent CT 1775

Joel is my earliest Thomson relative. His birth date is listed in an Estes genealogy as March 19 1775 in Kent CT.

Unfortunately, I have never found any record that confirms this date or place. He married Mary Estes in Dutchess County NY in 1800, also according to the Estes family.  The Estes records say his father was a John Thomson without further explanation. Sigh.

Blessed Christmas to All who Worship Him,

Wishing Blessings on all.  May your new year be full filling and many new leads found in your research.

Remember to make a goal of two to help guide you on your way.  Stay safe on the roadways, and in your homes as the storms are wreaking havoc all over our land.

To All whom Love God may this Time of year bring you peace and joy. Christians, Jewish, and others.

Skeletons in the Closet

When you're searching and you come across something totally unexpected, it can shock you for a moment. Even when you think you have the whole picture all figured out, it can still surprise you. That happened to me the other night. I was sitting here looking through some old military records on the website fold3.com when I checked the name of someone who served in the Mormon Battalion back during the Mexican War.

It's a great great grandfather of my husband.…

New Year is Coming, Are Your Goals Set?

New Year is Coming, Are Your Goals Set

Oh yes,  in the middle of all your hectic paced days, you should be thinking of January and what your Genealogical, Family Goals will be. You can do this mentally but make sure you write it down so as you do either a large goal or small you can cross sit off and feel more fulfilled at the end of the year.

Why you ask?  Because have goals propels you to accomplish more and possibly be more organized.

You can…
