New York Church Records
This week past has brought much discussion on NY state church records.
I have used usgenweb.org and then the county to gather what I could find prior to asking for more help.
More help is found in many places. I do not know if the Way Back Machine will find Barbara's site anymore.
I use Cliff Lamere's site often.

Anna Dorthea Rasmussen was born on the 28 September 1869 in Stokkemark, Lolland, Denmark. They emigrated to the USA in about 1872 or 73. She is listed in 1880 census of Campbell, Wilkin County, Minnesota, USA as the eldest child of Lars and Hannah Rasmuson. I would like to know more about her parents including her mother's maiden name.

St. Patrick's Day Wishes
There is much written about this event and holiday. It seems it is observed in many places besides the USA and Ireland.
Green Beer, Cornedbeef and Cabbage, Shamrocks, Shamrock Shakes (mint shake Mc Donald's), etc. I think most drive in's have them. Did he drive the snakes out of Ireland? Did his staff change? I sure can not say but I can say Happy Anniversary to my brother and his wife for they married on this day. Luck of…

It’s human nature to want to memorialize someone who has recently died. We want people to know who they were by allowing friends and family to come together and provide thoughts, insights and memories of the departed. Online, this is big business. This is because it can be shared all over the world and provides a platform that everyone can access, at any time. Here is my list of some of the top online memorial websites and obituary tribute websites. They are not ranked in any order of…

I'm starting to unravel information on my father's side of the family. My maiden name of Pooler.
For a long time my father's family specifically the Poolers have been a big mystery to me. My father enlisted in the Navy in 1950. He served during the Korean War. His home port for many years was San Diego, California. He was stationed at Great Lakes, Chicago where he met my mother in 1953. She was sixteen. They saw each other as much as they could and were engaged after 6…

Hi, all,
I am the family historian for the Johansen-McSherry family. Unlike many of the Norwegian immigrants who settled in Brooklyn, our side of the Johansens settled on Staten Island, New York. I know some things about our Johansen side, but am always eager to find out more.
If you have come across any information that you think would be helpful to me, please post a message here. Also, if I can be of any assistance to any of you, please let me know.
Thanks, …

Are you ready to jump into the future and bring the past with you?
There are things we can do online today that we could not do several years ago.
We can easily share our surnames and thoughts and knowledge with each other.
In some mediums we can share pictures and documents which in the past we could not.
Sometimes seeing is believing and it makes the topic make more sense.
Do you think we could have a chat…

One of the things that we have learned from the Who Do You Think You Are series is that not everything on our ancestors is available online. Remember that large document on Reba's English ancestors from the 1600s? Or the marriage register that awaited Martin Sheen in Italy? Or the newspaper articles on Blair Underwoods gt gt gt grandfather Sauney, the conjurer?…

CINCINNATI, March 1, 2012—Have you ever missed a genealogy conference session you wanted to attend because the room was too full, or because the time conflicted with another session of interest? Or heard how great a session was after the fact and lamented that you didn’t choose it?

Making huge strides in my research lately. I have been able to knock down brick walls that have existed for 35 years...only to find there was another one behind it!
Pennsylvania has finally put death indices online and I was able to locate my missing great grandfather. Just waiting now for his actual certificate to come, assuring me that it really is him. I found what I think is my great grandmother also. The only CARGILL in the right time period with no first name, of course. We'll…
